KNOCK OFF SPINNER CAP INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
INSTRUCTIONS:
- For installation, hand-tighten the caps to ensure the threads are correctly aligned. The caps have directional stamps indicating tightening direction and are labeled left/right for proper placement.
- For caps with ears/wings, you must complete tightening with a lead hammer by striking the wings of the spinner caps. Hex and Bullet style spinner caps must be tightened with the appropriate wrench and lead hammer. Wrench tightening alone is not sufficient.
- Once your car is lowered, tighten the spinner caps until there is no movement with a hard blow using a lead hammer. Make sure not to overtighten caps! Tightening the spinner with moderate hammer taps is better than hard hits.
- Tighten knock-off caps after 25 miles and then every 100 miles for the first 500 miles. Then, check tightness every few weeks. Wire wheels should be checked regularly to ensure spinner caps are tight.
- For removal, use a lead hammer and strike the ears of the center cap or wrench to loosen the cap from the adapter.
- Once the cap is spinning freely, finish unscrewing the cap by hand to help prevent the caps from any potential damage.
If you encounter difficulty while tightening caps onto adapters, double-check that you are utilizing the appropriate side of the cap and turning it in the direction indicated on the cap itself. Remember, “Right” corresponds to the passenger’s side, and “Left” pertains to the driver’s side. If you still have issues, do not force installation, as you can damage the threads of the cap and adapter. Instead, contact us for assistance – we are happy to help.
GENERAL TIPS AND WARNINGS:
- Our knock-off spinner caps are universally compatible with 13-22” knock-off style wire wheels, including Dayton Wire Wheel, Luxor, Razor, OG Wire, Truespoke, British Wire Wheel, and other brands of wire wheels. They are NOT compatible with OTD Dayton Wire Wheel adapters, splined wire wheel adapters, or bolt-on style wire wheels.
- It is essential to avoid installing caps on the wrong side or attempting to turn the threads in the wrong direction, as this can damage the threads on either the adapter or spinner.
- To ensure sufficient force is applied and to prevent any harm to the cap’s finish or structure, it is essential to use a lead hammer when installing and removing knock-off spinner caps. Other hammer styles will damage the cap’s finish and structure.
- Exercise care when utilizing products like polishes, abrasives (including brushes), and acid-based cleaners, as they can potentially harm finishes.
- Cleaning gold spinner caps requires some special care due to the delicate nature of gold plating. Gold, while more resistant to tarnishing than chrome, demands a delicate touch to preserve its luster. To clean gold spinner caps, a mild soapy water solution and a soft cloth are recommended, followed by gentle patting dry to avoid abrasion. Avoid harsh chemicals and products not specifically designed for gold. Improper cleaning and care are not covered under our warranty.
- For extra protection, we recommend using a clean towel between the wrench or hammer and the spinner cap. This is a valuable technique for achieving a secure fit without scratches and minimizing the potential for cosmetic damage during cap installation or removal.
- Please be aware that lead hammers can experience distortion over time due to the nature of the lead material. While some level of distortion is normal and generally does not impact functionality, it’s important to note that excessive distortion can potentially lead to unintended consequences, including damaging the finish.
- We recommend carrying a lead hammer in your vehicle. This handy tool ensures you’re prepared to conveniently tighten or loosen your wire wheels on the road if the situation arises.
